It is one of the most important sites for the Sikhs, as the handprint of Guru Nanak—the founder of Sikhism—is believed to be imprinted on a boulder at the gurdwara. It is managed by the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee under the federal government of Pakistan.
